Metatrader 4 trading charts indicators are used to visually aid data that is not readily apparent. Some technical indicators measure the changing cost of an asset over time (e.g., MACD, RSI), whereas others isolate factors that can affect the value of assets (e.g., Bollinger Bands).

Some common MT4 indicators to look out for are:

  1. Moving average convergence divergence (MACD)
  2. Relative strength index (RSI)
  3. Simple moving average (SMA)
  4. Exponential moving average (EMA)
  5. Chaikin oscillator

The first thing you need to know is how to add MetaTrader4 indicators.

Here is what you do:

  • Click on the "Insert" menu.
  • Select an indicator you want to add (Accelerator Oscillator, Average True Range, Alligator).
  • Establish the parameters to read indicators on the chart, such as color, line style, and time frame.

When you want to select chart objects, you essentially follow the same elements:

  • Hit "Insert."
  • Pick the object you want to add (lines, shapes, Fibonacci, channels, and arrows).
  • Choose the area of the chart you want the object to appear.

The next step is to consider some of the more common indicators when you want to know how to read the MetaTrader 4 chart. These are the go-to technical indicators for your MT4 trading needs:

  • Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD): A momentum measure to determine the two moving averages of prices.
  • Money Flow Index (MFI): Another momentum forex indicator that calculates the price and volume to determine the movement of the currency pair.
  • On-Balance Volume (OBV): A tool to understand the positive and negative volume flows of a particular security.
  • CCI: A high accuracy indicator on whether to enter a long or short position of a currency pair (above the +100 line is a buy signal and below the -100 line is a sell signal).

It should also be noted that you can install custom M4T indicators on the platform. Here is what you do:

  • Find and copy the MT4 custom indicator file on your computer.
  • Open the Data Folder.
  • Open the MQL4 file.
  • Open the Indicators file.
  • Paste the files.
  • Restart your MetaTrader 4 platform.
