Economic events, economic news, interest rate changes, and government policy are all examples of factors that seem to influence market volatility significantly. More recently, politics have been a major determining factor.
Volatility is a measure of investor sentiment; therefore, anything altering investors' activity will impact market volatility. A market is considered volatile if it rises or falls by more than 1% over a lengthy period.
