Does Wealthsimple support fractional shares?

Asked 3 years ago

Does Wealthsimple have fractional share rights (FSRs)? What happens to split shares if the trading platform doesn't support stock splitting or dilution? Has anyone experienced any issues with this?

No, Wealthsimple does not support fractional shares. Although an account can be funded with as low as $1, you have to have enough money to buy at least one share. Split shares are not rounded up, any split share is accumulated as cash to your trade account.

Yes, Wealthsimple does support fractional share investing now. The company announced the feature in July.

Also, you can always purchase an investment whereby there was stock dilution or stock splitting. The act does not impact how you trade on any platform

It should be noted that your options are limited to only a select few (four Canadian stocks and ten American securities):

  • Airbnb
  • Amazon (AMZN)
  • Apple (AAPL)
  • Canadian National Railway (CNR)
  • Coinbase (COIN)
  • Facebook (FB)
  • Google (GOOGL)
  • Microsoft (MSFT)
  • Netflix (NFLX)
  • Nvidia (NVDA)
  • Royal Bank of Canada (RBC)
  • Shopify (SHOP)
  • Tesla (TSLA)
  • Toronto Dominion Bank (TD)

The list of Wealthsimple trade partial shares will only grow over time.
