How do I move my dogecoin from Robinhood to a wallet like TRUST?

Asked 4 years ago

I like to save some of my doge in a wallet, I have mine in Robinhood should I move some to that wallet or move to an external one like TRUST, I keep reading that we should be safe and have a wallet, how do I do that? I want to move some of my profit and leave my initial in there is that even a good idea?

The advantage of owning cryptocurrency is the flexibility it offers. Unfortunately, Robinhood only allows you to invest in cryptocurrency and not owning the actual token. This means you can’t directly transfer your Dogecoin from Robinhood to any wallet.

The only way to transfer your coin is by converting it to US dollar, transferring the money into your account, and buying back the coin on other exchanges that allow you to transfer your cryptocurrency like Kraken and Binance.

The disadvantage of this method is that you would have to pay capital gain tax during tax season because IRS treats cryptocurrency like stock.

With Robinhood, you don't have access to a wallet as a Dogecoin holder.

One way you could move your Doge is by selling it. For example, move the money you get into a bank account and buy Doge from a platform like Binance.

On the downside, selling your Dogecoin from US dollars will attract capital gain tax.
