How often do you recommend I check my investment portfolio?
Asked 4 years ago
How often do you check your portfolio? Multiple times a day? Once a day? Less? ...and when you do, what are you checking for? I feel I'm hawk-watching more than stock-watching, i.e., checking it too often!

First, it depends on what your investment strategy is. Are you trading stocks for the long term, or are you participating in events trading?
Whatever the case, if you're the average investor, and you're holding for the long run, you are better off checking it weekly.
Seriously, if you are refreshing your brokerage account every hour or so, it might distract you from your broader trading strategy.
Moreover, people who typically invest more than they can afford to lose are the ones who are monitoring their portfolio multiple times a day. This is understandable, but it is also unwise.
Do your due diligence, make your investments, and move on with your life.
