What are long and short positions in Forex trading?

Do long and short positions have something to do with buying and selling? Can you have a long and short position with trading forex?

Long and short positions in the foreign exchange market function similarly to the stock market.
A long position in the U.S. dollar or Swiss franc suggests that you are bullish on the currency rate going up, so you earn a profit.
A short position means that you are betting against the Japanese yen or the Turkish lira, so if the current rate falls, you make money.
