Real Estate Investment Trusts: Do I have to pay taxes on dividends?
Asked 4 years ago
I’m trying to build a dividend portfolio. I’m wondering if anyone can explain to me whether or not we have to pay taxes on dividends from stocks (like coca-cola) or dividends from REITs or other types of dividends? All investments are being held in a TFSA. Oh and out of interest sake: Does Webull offer REITs?

For the most part, no you do not pay have to pay tax on dividends from REITs or stocks. It should be noted, however, that REITs that derive their income from the United States will be subjected to a withholding tax.
So, that said, if you are getting dividends from your investments in TFSA, you do not have to pay a tax.
Beware that if you go over the contribution limit, you will be slapped with a one percent monthly penalty tax.
