When are quarterly dividends paid out?
Asked 4 years ago
Aside from the fact that this seems obvious, it also appears that different securities pay at different times. Can I have some clarification on this?

There are two measurements to monitor when you are looking for dividend information.
The first is "Ex-Dividend Date." Investors need to execute their stock purchases before this date to receive a dividend payment for the next payout.
For example, if Walmart notes an Ex-Dividend Date of July 2, you will need to buy shares before that date.
The second is "Dividend Payable Date." This refers to the date that declared stock dividends are scheduled to be paid to shareholders. This typically a few days after the ex-dividend date has been declared.
You will either receive a check in the mail or a deposit in your brokerage account.
